Target Terror: the worst Wii title yet?
    Posted 5/14/2008 at 3:40:47 PM

For those who are not familiar, Target: Terror is a Wii port of an arcade lightgun game from the 90's featuring digitized actors ala Lethal Enforcers. The problem is that the game originally released in arcades only 4 years ago.. well late enough to where it could have featured 3-d environments, realitic 3-d enemies, and some level of interactivity.

That being said, it's beyond us why Konami chose to port this to the Wii. Was it a quick cash in for the Wii Zapper? SEGA did, after all, bring House of the Dead and Ghost Squad out for us. The difference there, though, is that SEGA is the king of arcade games and those ports were more than competent to begin with. Maybe Konami ported it though, for precisely the same twisted reason why I want to buy this when it's cheaper... the "it's so bad it's good" factor.

While I'd never expect this game to win any sort of award, I could totally see having a few pals over some night to tear through it while we laugh uncontrollably at every turn of the 16-bit style static backgrounds and terrible acting. Yes, this could truly be the beginning of a sort of MST3K: for videogames.

First hands on impressions from Skate It (Wii version)
    Posted 5/14/2008 at 9:35:04 AM

News about EA's upcoming Skate It only broke a few days ago, and already hands on impressions have arrived. Joystiq's Randy Nelson got some hands on time at the EA Spring Break event and had some positive things to say about the controls

EA claims that it went through several possible control schemes before settling on the present one, and we're glad the others got kicked to the curb. As it stands, Skate It's control is one of the best gameplay implementations of the Wiimote yet.
Unfortunately, he wasn't quite as pleased with the game's graphics. That's ok, though. We realize that what he played was an early build, and EA will most definitely hopefully be sprucing them up before the game's eventual release.

UPDATE: IGN also got their crack at Skate It, and had similiar positiive thoughts on the controls..
after a bit of practice it was cool and almost second nature to use the Wii remote motion sensor to fliptrick into a grind.
For their full writeup, check out the article.

    skate. coming to Wii, DS
    Posted 5/12/2008 at 3:00:12 PM

A version of EA's skate., probably the BEST skateboarding game ever released(in our humble opinion), is currently being developed for the Wii and DS. Sure, it's a little behind the other versions of the game, but for good reason.

Using dual analogs, the original control method just isn..

    Bulletin system revised
    Posted 5/12/2008 at 2:35:00 PM

After noticing some unusual lag with the site over the weekend, we put the whips to our dev team and had them go over things with a fine tooth comb.

So what did they come up with? A completely revised bulletin system that should use fewer CPU cycles for each request. Bottom line: improved per..

VC Monday: Just as we expected..
    Posted 5/12/2008 at 8:20:14 AM

Given Nintendo's half-assed efforts with the Virtual Console as of late, we sort of expected the treatment we're getting this week, with not a single Virtual Console game being released. Nintendo has a good excuse for it though, with the launch of WiiWare today. Let's just hope(as they claim), that ..
