CES is traditionally not huge on gaming news, but we are receiving information today about some spiffy new accessories from Nyko who has previously released some of the best Wii peripherals of any 3rd party.
First up, is the Wand, Nyko's take on the WiiMote. The first thing that strikes us about this monstrosity is that it's OOOGLY. Obviously it mimics the Wiimote in functionality, but it's an added feature that has us excited for this one. The Wand actually includes an extra signal connection, so properly designed peripherals can send button presses through the Wiimote electrically, rather than mechanically.
So what does that mean in english? A light gun, for example, now only needs a signal connection to the Wiimote - the trigger doesnt have to actually press down the B button. This can make for better designed add-ons that don't have to make concessions to "reach" for the Wiimote's buttons. This is brilliant if Nyko supplies us with a stready stream of add-ons that take advantage of it, and it could provide a valid reason to buy a Wand over a Wiimote.
Check out the video below for a visual example of the signal connection.
On the boring side of things, Nyko has also updated their charge station - which was a fine product to begin with - to include a charge meter which can help you guesstimate how long it will take to charge your batteries. In reality, we're content with just letting the Wiimotes live on the charger when not in use, so we're not sure that it makes much difference to us either way.
And the final product, the Kama Charge Kit is a new charger which includes a spot for 1 Wiimote and 1 spot for a Kama Controller(wireless nunchuck - included with the kit)
