As expected, the developers at HackMii have updated their various homebrew tools so they will not stop working after the v4.2 Wii system update. You can hit the source link for all the details, but the bottom line is if you just have the Homebrew Channel, you should be able to use it's online update feature to get the Nintendo-proof version of it.
If you try it out, let us know how it works for you, since we're stuck away from our Wii's all day.

UPDATE: The Homebrew Channel and other homebrew tools have been updated to work on Wii system v4.2.
Nintendo has not been shy about combating homebrew since the rise of the Twilight Hack. Through update after update, they've tried to stop hackers from installing unauthorized software but never went further than disabling new methods of installing stuff.
Today's update to version 4.2 is much more sinister, however, as it detects and deletes most homebrew from your Wii system, including the Homebrew Channel.
While this is a bummer for those of us who are enjoying this software, we're sure that it's creators will have workaround readied in just a few days. For now, just try to hang back and don't hit that update button!

Today, at the 2009 Game Developers Conference, Iwata announced Wii Menu 4.0 which is live in North America right now.
This is probably the most significant update to the Wii yet, and it's one that's been too long in the making. There are two core changes here- it adds SDHC support, and allows you to download games directly to your SD card. It also affects homebrew tools. Scroll down for info on that. When we reported on these plans before, the gist was that you would have to transfer games to the internal Wii memory in order to play them, but this is not the case at all. Games can be stored and played directly from the SD card. Beautiful!
With 8 and even 16gb SD cards getting so cheap, it seems like this is a perfect solution and one that won't cost the consumer a cent.
So Nintendo,.. now that we have inexpensive expanded storage.. let's drop that 40mb cap on WiiWare titles and get into some real competition with XBLA and PSN!

UPDATE: According to hackmii.com, the Homebrew Channel and DVDx ARE still working after the update.
As of now, Wii Menu 4.0 breaks the Twilight Hack, DVDx, and the Homebrew Channel. Not much more is known at this time, so users wishing to preserve this functionality should NOT update. Of course we'll update with more information once it's released.

Those of you who were a little wary of Wii system update 3.4 the other day have at least a little reason to rejoice tonight, as word has trickled down through the interwebs that the update significantly improves on Nintendo's SD slot drivers.
What does this mean for you? It means that copying games to and from your SD card should no longer be the chore that it once was.
It still remains to be seen whether or not Nintendo will follow through on their threat to begin removing channels, but in the meantime, at least there are some benefits to reap from this.
