They Digg It is an occasional look at popular Nintendo related content on social news site Digg.com ![]() What happened guys? Needed some cash to support your rampant shroom habit? Sad. Hit the source link for the video.
Here's an amazing PSA from back in the NES's heyday featuring none other than Captain Lou Albano sporting his Mario cap telling kids to stay off drugs. It aired on the now defunct(or at least re-branded "Philly57") to coincide with the also defunct Super Mario Super Show.
![]() Yeah, we know,.. it doesn't seem like you'd be finding Dreamcast news here today, but we feel it's important to pay homage to a beloved platform that gave us the roots for many titles we've enjoyed on Nintendo(and other) consoles over the years. Yes, it was 10 years ago now that the Dreamcast made it's debut. 9/9/99 was a glorious day for gamers, or at least those of us who could afford the system at launch. Everytime we think about that little white box we can't help but get a little teary eyed, knowing what could have been had Sega not pulled the plug on it so early in it's life cycle. In fact, the Dreamcast is so loved, that games are STILL being released by indie developers to this day. Yes, it's true! We're not sure what else there is to say, but we'll be unhooking the Wii tonight in place of the louder, fatter, noisier white box. What DC games were your favs? We were always partial to Capcom's fighting games, quirky Sega efforts like Space Channel 5 and Jet Grind Radio, and the most insane multiplayer title ever, Chu Chu Rocket(which needs to be on WiiWare, like NOW)
..and it's looking a lot less "classic" to us. As you can see below, Nintendo has introduced a new version of the classic controller which adds some grips and a "2 layer" shoulder button layout, much like the Sony Dualshock controller. ![]() While we certainly understand where Nintendo is coming from- they would like to promote this controller as a standard for less motion-oriented games- we sort of balk at the idea of it being called a "classic controller". Don't get us wrong.. we don't particularly have anything against it, and we're sure it will work great for newer Wii games designed with it in mind.. it's just not a controller we'd wanna sit down to play SNES games with. In our mind, the retro feel is completely part of the experience of playing these games. C'mon Nintendo,.. less of this and more products like the Club Nintendo SNES remake controller. Heck, we even like the Nyko Wing(if for nothing other than their print ads) and the appropriately named Datel Retro Controller with it's Famicom-esque looks..
A fair warning to you, loyal reader: the language in this video is a bit foul, but we can't hold that against it,.. for our reaction to witnessing a HUGE FARKING WORKING GAMEBOY would be nearly the same!
Thinking back, the 90's were such a great time for video games. Maybe it's because many of us were about 10 back then, but there was always something magical about walking into a store and seeing rows and rows of NES and Gameboy games lined up behind the counter. Of course, some stores got you even ..continue reading Early 90's Nintendo training video arouses childhood memories
![]() We just wanted to link you guys to this cool illustration we stumbled on this morning. It shows a ton of game controllers through the years(in scale), and lists their components textually. How many of the ..continue reading Visual evolution of game controllers shows evolution visually
With the holiday season already in full swing we're on the hunt for great gift ideas, and if you're buying for a gamer this year, what better gift than a rare video game for their collection?
